East Link light rail construction is now underway in Bellevue, notably in South Bellevue, downtown and BelRed. The construction activities will sometimes impact how you access the city. Your patience in planning your commute in advance and your understanding that construction schedules often change are appreciated. This page contains construction updates and impacts as they become known and are listed by segment area.

General News       

South Bellevue Segment/Area          


  • Nighttime closure of all I-90 ramps to northbound Bellevue Way SE: Starting Mon., 4/16 and lasting for approximately eight weeks, all I-90 ramps to northbound Bellevue Way will close from 9pm to 5 am (Monday through Friday morning) to construct columns in advance elevated guideway construction. Expect heavy equipment and noise. All lanes of Bellevue Way from 112th Ave. NE to I-90 will remain open. Ramps from southbound Bellevue Way to I-90 will remain open. Sidewalks in this area will be closed. Bicyclists and pedestrians should seek alternate routes. Northbound bus stops on Bellevue Way south of 112th Ave. SE will be closed; southbound bus stops will remain open. The detour from I-90 to Bellevue Way SE and 112th Ave. SE will be via I-405 and SE 8th Street. (Construction Alert 04.18.18)    
  • 24-hour closure Bellevue Way SE to I-90 west HOV ramp: Beginning Mon, 4/16, for approximately 120 days, Sound Transit’s contractor will close the Bellevue Way SE to I-90 west HOV ramp.  (Construction Alert 04.05.18


  • New traffic control starts April 23 through Nov. 2018: Two lanes will be maintained in the peak direction: northbound (into downtown Bellevue) for the morning commute and southbound (to I-90) in the afternoon commute. (Details and graphic in construction alert 04.18.18)
  • Daily closures of one northbound lane of Bellevue Way SE, between the South Bellevue Station site and the "Y" at 112th Avenue SE.4/16-4/20, Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Construction Alert 04.05.18).
  • As needed, crews will close one southbound lane of Bellevue Way SE, between the "Y" at 112th Avenue SE and SE 30th: 4/16-4/20, Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Construction Alert 04.05.18).


  • Weekend closures of 112th Ave SE between Bellevue Way SE and SE 8th Street, April 21-22. Closure begins Sat. 7 am; ends Sun. 7 pmAdditional closures may be necessary. (Construction Alert 04.18.18)
  • Daily closures of one northbound lane of 112th Avenue SE, between Bellevue Way SE and Main Street. Mon-Fri, 9 am to 4pm (Construction Alert 04.18.18
  • Daily closures of one southbound lane of 112th Avenue SE, between Main Street and SE 8th, Mon-Frid 9 am to 4 pm. (Construction Alert 04.18.18)
  • As  needed, one southbound lane may close between SE 8th Street and Bellevue Way SE: Mon-Fri, 7am to 3pm. (Construction Alert 04.18.18).
  • As needed, alternate sidewalk closures between east and west side between Main Street and SE 6th Street (Construction Alert 04.18.18)

ADDITIONAL IMPACTS                                                    

  • Surrey Downs Park access changes begin Feb. 15, 2018: The north entrance from 112th Avenue SE to Surrey Downs Park and the parking area will be closed starting Feb. 15. The Park will remain open through April 2 at which time the city will begin its construction as part of the Surrey Downs Park Master Plan. Walk in entrance to the Park is available at 111th Ave SE, 111th Pl SE and at the intersection of SE 6th St and 110th Ave                                              
  • Pilot turn restrictions at SE 16th St/108th Ave and SE 16th St/Bellevue Way modified and extended, starting Jan. 13, 2018Read the details about the pilot program.  Features in effect Monday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.      
  • No access to 108th Avenue SE south of SE 16th Street from southbound 108th Ave SE. (NOTE: Intersection is now an "all-way stop" intersection in effect 24/7 for motorists, bicyclists and transit)
  • No access to southbound Bellevue Way from westbound SE 16th St at Bellevue Way SE    

  • Construction staging at Enatai Beach Park. October 2017 - March 2018. To stage construction equipment needed to establish the work zone to perform seismic retrofit work that will occur along the East Channel Bridge. Work. Park will remain open during the work; 12 parking spaces of the 24 in the upper lot (under I-90) may be unavailable. Parking available in the lower lot. This work is being done as part of the I-90 segment of East Link. Work hours Mon-Fri, 7 am-5pm; Sat. 9am-6pm. Expect truck traffic and intermittent lane closures on 108th Ave SE.   • Winters House Protection and Monitoring underwayMore information in Construction Alert.(09.06.17) 
  • SE 15th Street temporarily closed during construction. Workers and visitors needing to access Bellefield Office Park will use 114th Ave SE from SE 8th Street.
  • SE 4th Street entrance from 112th Avenue SE permanently closed. .City sent postcard to Surrey Downs and Bellecrest neighbors. 
  • Winters House closed during construction.  The Eastside Heritage Center's archive and research services has been relocated. To access the collection, call 425-450-1109 or email collections@eastsideheritagecenter.org
  • South Bellevue Park and Ride closed during construction. Commuters are asked not to park within Bellevue neighborhoods.   New lot opens Jan. 2, 2018 at 1212-104th Ave SE.

    Central Bellevue Segment/Area

    Area includes East Main, Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton and Spring District/120th Stations. The downtown tunnel is located in the area but was contracted separately. .........)


    • Southbound 110th Ave NE closed, NE 2nd Place to NE 3rd Place: Closure begins 4/16 and will last approximately six months. The southbound lanes will be closed to allow excavation and construction of a tunnel ventilation and access shaft to the main tunnel beneath 110th.  A detour will be established for southbound traffic. (Construction alert)     


    • Long-term closure on 110th Ave NE begins Oct. 9, 2107. A full closure (all lanes, all directions, 24-hour) will begin in the northern portion of 110th Ave NE - from the driveway at City Hall up to NE 6th St. Details and map in Construction Alert (09.18.17)    
      • Phase 1: Full closure is scheduled for 9 months (through spring 2018); needed to build north tunnel portal.
      • Phase 2: Partial closure (spring 2018-winter 2018); one lane of traffic; each direction to open
      • Phase 3: Full closure (winter 2018-spring 2019) in northern portion needed for road restoration. 
    • NE 6th Street access to City Hall is permanently closed.

    BelRed Segment/Area

    The Bel-Red/130th Station and the Operations and Maintenance Facility-East are located in this area.               

    • Mid-Block 24-hour closure on 130th Ave NE near NE 15th Place: Begins Mon. 4/23, through early July 2018. Crews will install a new sewer line underneath 130th Ave NE. Closure in effect 24-hours; work to occur throughout closure time.Through traffic will be prohibited during this closure, business access will be maintained. (Construction alert 04.05.18)
    • 134th Ave NE and Spring Blvd. 4/16-20, Mon-Fri, 7 am - 3:30 pm. Flagging operations to locate utilities.
    • 140th Ave. NE between NE 20th and NE 24th Street. Northbound lane and sidewalk closure. From 9 a.m. Friday, April 20, to 6 a.m. Monday, April 23. Closure for drilled shaft operations. 
    • POSTPONED -- One-way traffic on 136th Pl NE in Bellevue: The traffic revision originally schedule to begin Friday, April 20, has been postponed to a future date.      
    • PSE utility work continues portions of 130th Ave NE; NE Spring Blvd, 136th Place NE. Undergrounding and relocating utilities. Reduced travel lanes and temporary parking restrictions. See PSE update (09.05.17)

    Overlake-SR 520 Segment/Area

    The Overlake Village and Redmond Technology stations are located in this area.                 

    • Northbound lane and sidewalk closure: 140th Ave. NE between NE 20th and NE 24th Street. From 9 a.m. Fri. 4/20, to 6 a.m. Mon., 4/23. Closure for drilled shaft operations. 
    • Sidewalk closure on south side of NE 24th Street, between 148th Ave NE and NE 29th Street, April 23-27, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Overlake Transit Center Park and Ride closed May 1, 2017. Commuters are asked not to park within Bellevue neighborhoods.                    

    Interstate 90 Segment/Area     

    • Island Crest Way westbound HOV on-ramp will close intermittently during off-peak hours Tuesday April 17 – Thursday April 19 and Monday April 23. Construction Alert (04.16.18)
    • Mercer Island Station Project Update. Read latest update (03.23.18) 
    • East Channel Bridge/Suspended Work Platform Installation starts Feb. 16. Work begins to install a work platform beneath the East Channel Bridge and will be visible from Enatai Beach Park. Details in Construction Alert (02.08.18)        
    • Mercer Island Station Update. Construction focus is on pouring concrete footings. Details in Project Update (02.02.18)
    • Judkins Park Station, utility pole replacement starts Jan. 22; lasts 4 months. Over 30 utility poles are being replaced by Seattle City Light in the Mt. Baker neighborhood. Local closures may be necessary. Power outages required. Details and map in Construction Alert (01.22.18)
