Check the Traffic Advisories map and text below for the latest information about construction work that can affect travel on city streets, sidewalks and trails. (Note: For information on road closures related to ice, snow or flooding, please see the city’s Emergencies and Extreme Weather page).

New and updated traffic impacts are listed first. Expect traffic delays or use an alternate route, if possible. Please obey construction signs and flaggers.

General construction     

  • NEW -- Pedestrian/bicycle trail maintenance. Crews will repair 19 pedestrian/bicycle trails at locations citywide starting 10/22 & finishing by 10/30, depending on weather. For more info. contact project manager Tom Conway at 425-766-0688. A trail map shows locations, highlighted in yellow.
  • UPDATED -- Sunset and Heathfield Pump Stations and Force Main Upgrade Project: 164th Place SE between SE 35th St and Vasa Creek between 163rd Ave SE and SE 35th St: 24/7 closure through early 2019 Project website         
  • UPDATED -- 112th Ave NE & 108th Ave NE Pedestrian & Bicycle Improvements- NE 12th St to NE 39th St: On-going through 10/26, Mon - Fri, 9 am to 3 pm. Expect lane closures with alternating traffic at various locations. Construction alert
  • 2018 Overlay Program (program webpage with all project locations) Expect single lane closures and delays; use alternate routes, if possible.
    • NEW -- Richards Rd from Lake Hills Connector to SE Eastgate Way: 10/22 - 11/2, Mon – Fri, 7am - 3:30 pm.
    • 156th Ave SE between Lake Hills Connector to SE 24th St (Upgrading ADA Ramps): On-going, Mon – Fri, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm.                
    • SE 38th & 150th (Upgrading ADA Ramps): On-going, Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.    
    • Eastgate Way from 146th to Richards Road: On-going, Mon - Fri, 7 am - 3:30 pm.

Central Bellevue (Downtown)

  • Night closures on I-405: Wed, 10/17, 10 pm - 5 am. During the closures, drivers should follow the signed detour. Construction alert
    • Crews will close the southbound I-405 HOV lane and one left lane from NE 10th St to Main St.
    • The northbound I-405 HOV lane and one left lane from NE 10th St to Main St will be closed.
    • The northbound I-405 off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp to and from NE 6th St will be closed while work is occurring.
    • The eastbound NE 8th Street on-ramp to southbound I-405 will also be closed.

South Bellevue​  Construction alert  

  • NEW -- Sat, 10/13, 7 am - 6 pm. Contractor will close the northbound curb lane of Bellevue Way SE.
  • NEW -- 148th Ave NE undercrossing of East Link Light Rail overcrossing between NE 20th St and SR 520: Thurs, 10/18, 11 pm - Fri, 10/19 – 5 am and Fri, 10/19, 11pm - Sat, 10/20 - 5 am. This is a hard closure. Full closure of roadway, bicycle and pedestrian access for the work to be done on the aerial guideway.
  • UPDATED -- I-90 Bike trail and 108th Ave SE: 10/12-17, Mon - Fri, 7 am - 6 pm. Crews will close one lane of 108th Ave SE near Enatai Beach Park, Sound Transit's contractor will reduce 108th Ave SE to one lane between SE 34th St and SE Lake Road. Flaggers will be onsite actively directing traffic. During the closure, people on bikes will be asked to dismount and walk their bikes through the work area. People biking and driving should follow the direction of flaggers to safely reach their destination. During non-work hours, metal plates will cover the work area, but people biking and driving should proceed with caution.
  • UPDATED -- I-90: 10/12-17, Mon - Fri (morning), 8 pm - 5 am. Contractor plans to close the southbound I-405 to westbound I-90 HOV ramp and the I-90 westbound HOV lane between I-405 and the East Chanel Bridge.
  • NEW -- Bellevue Way SE: Occasional closures of two eastside lanes. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
  • NEW -- Bellevue Way SE: 10/15-19, Mon - Fri, 6 am - 6 pm. Work is set to begin on the light rail trench and guideway adjacent to Bellevue Way Southeast, between the South Bellevue Station site and the Wye at 112th Avenue Southeast. Throughout the project, two lanes will be maintained in the peak direction: northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon.

North Bellevue​  (BelRed)

  • NE 20th St and 136th Pl NE: On-going through early Spring 2019, Sound Transit's contractor crews will shift traffic to the west side of 136th Pl NE. All traffic on 136th Pl NE will travel north from NE Spring Blvd towards NE 20th St. This closure is necessary to install utilities and light rail infrastructure. Construction alert    

112th Ave SE

  • NEW -- Between Main St and SE 8th St: 10/15-19, Mon - Fri, 9 am - 4 pm. As needed, daily closures of one southbound lane. 

 Overlake-SR 520 area

  • Overlake area. Southbound 156th Ave NE at SR 520 will be closed nightly from 9/24 to 10/19, 9 pm - 6 am, while Sound Transit contractor installs new sewer line. Work scheduled at night to  is scheduled at night to minimize significant traffic disruptions. Signed detour routes will be available for vehicles and pedestrians.

Ongoing general construction impacts ​

  • 123rd Ave NE between NE District Way and NE 14th St: 10/9-11, 10/15 & 10/18, 7 am - 6 pm. Closure is for concrete pours. Garage access to the west will be maintained.
  • NE 12th Street at 108th Ave NE: On-going. Drivers should expect a long term right lane closure in the westbound direction of NE 12th St between 110th Ave and 112th Ave NE. This closure is necessary to maintain safe vehicular distance from shoring along the edge of road that has been installed to temporarily support the pedestrian bridge structure.         
  • NE 8th Street between 132nd Ave NE and 134th Ave NE: NE 8th St is partially open to traffic. Work will continue on restoration of utilities, landscaping and paving through 12/23, Mon - Fri, 7 am – 6 pm. Pedestrian access will be maintained though detoured within the construction zone.   • 100th Ave NE between NE 28th and NE 32nd: Ongoing through the end of November. Work hours: 7 am to 5 pm, Mon-Fri. Utilities AC water main replacement project.
  • 128th Ave SE/NE from SE 6th Pl to NE 2nd St: Ongoing through the end of October. Work hours: 7 am to 5:30 pm, Mon-Fri. Installing new drainage and sidewalks along with other improvements. One way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers.
  • 164th Ave SE, between SE 35th St and 3610 164th Ave SE and adding closure of 164th Ave SE between 163rd Ave SE and SE 35th St: 8/31 to 10/31. Closure extended for work on King County Sewer Project. Map and Project website 
  • 148th Ave NE and Bel-Red Road: Begins 8/3 through the end of August, Mon - Fri, 7:30 am to 4 pm. Work will start at the east side of the intersection of 148th Ave NE on Bel-Red Road and head eastbound on Bel Red Road in front of Highland Middle School and ending short of 152nd Ave NE. There be one eastbound lane closed (curb lane).
  • Woodridge turn restrictions: On-going through December. The changes will restrict all traffic (bikes and buses are exempt) from traveling southbound on 128th Ave SE to eastbound SE 32nd St, Mon-Fri, 4-7 pm. Additionally, traffic will be restricted from southbound 128th Ave SE to westbound SE 30th St. Project website            
  • Construction of bridges in 2018:This summer, crews will construct new bridges at Cascade Key and Newport Key to improve water flow in Coal Creek and decrease flood risk. Work hours are 7:30 am to 4 pm. Construction is allowed to take place on Saturdays after 9 am, if needed; notice will be provided to adjacent residents when Saturday work is scheduled.     • Newport Key Bridge: Ongoing through October 2018. Construction of the new bridge at Newport Key will require closing the street to vehicles and pedestrians at Coal Creek, between Skagit Key and Orcas Key. While the road is expected to reopen in October, the construction will likely continue through December 2018. Residents living on Newport Key will have access to driveways and garbage collection throughout the construction period.
    • Cascade Key Bridge: Construction of the new bridge at Cascade Key will take place from June through December 2018. Through October, Cascade Key will be reduced to one lane near Coal Creek. The single lane will be 11 feet wide to accommodate pedestrians, cars, garbage trucks, and delivery trucks. While school is in session, flaggers during peak hours will help control the flow of traffic. During other times, there will be a temporary traffic light with a sensor that switches to green when vehicles are waiting and switches to red, both directions, if pedestrians need to cross. All residents on Cascade Key will have access to their driveways and garbage collection throughout the construction period, aside from up to six short-duration (2-hour) full closures of Cascade Key throughout the summer of 2018.
  • Lake Hills: Ongoing through December. Construction on King County’s Eastgate Interceptor Rehabilitation project, including work within the Lake Hills Greenbelt Park. More information
